First, a quick definition for those who do not know what a Blog is. Quite simply, it's a Web Log. In other words, a regularly updated page of your thoughts, ideas, links - whatever.

It's very easy to publish a Blog these days and today I'm going to show you how in a few easy steps. Don't worry - all the sites, services and tools involved are fr'ee.

Before we go ahead I should first explain why a Blog is so usefull. A Blog provides a number of benefits to you and your site and all for very little effort.

1. A Blog will add valuable content to your site. This in turn increases repeat visitors and increases the frequency the Google Page Bot (and therefore how often your site listings are updated) will visit.

2. A Blog can be updated very quickly (especially using the technique I show you below). It's much faster to update than editing your Web Page or sending out an e-mail.

3. Blogs can be delivered as RSS Feeds and this means a user can download software to have your Blog delivered direct to their desktop as and when it's updated. You DO NOT have to pay for sites such as Quikonnex or the new Cory Rudl software. RSS Feeds are NOT new and you shouldn't have to pay for what is essentially a fr'ee technology!

Links exchanges can be extremely productive, but here are a few things to consider. Set up a separate page where you will put your reciprocal links, however, do not name this page links.html or links.htm, call it associates.html. This will make other webmasters more attracted to having a link on your page, also it seems a lot more professional to have 'associates' rather than; 'random people I decided to exchange links with to gain/maintain a high SE ranking'.

Furthermore, when first starting out on your quest for links, always be the one to make the first move, by placing a link to someone's page in anticipation of them reciprocating. You can always remove it if they don't, and it is likely to encourage them to add a link to your site. Do not be afraid to approach the 'Big Boys', do a search in Google for your keyword, and contact the people that rank highest. This makes perfect sense, but many people simply do not bother contacting the webmasters at the top - thinking they would never agree to exchange links with them. But remember; they too have to maintain their high position and getting new links is the easiest way to do this. If you have a website the chances are you receive e-mails from Webmasters asking you to make a link exchange with them. But how do you know whether you should link to their website or not? Well here are 9 rules of thumb, to help guide you through the linking maze.

1. Is their site relevant to yours?

This is key, and more and more important these days. If the answer is YES then it�s worth thinking about. If it�s off topic then you may want to think twice before swapping links. A link from a relevant website to your site is the preferred choice as it can help reinforce your website theme and potentially send some useful traffic your way.

2. How many links is too many on a links page?

When your link is being placed on another website, you ideally want that page to contain as few outbound links as possible. 15 or less outbound links is good, 150 outbound links is not so good. If there are a high number of links on a page [such as 150] then the value of each link out is weakened. Whilst we can only make assumptions about �link weight� some Webmasters will use a cut off point of 50, 75 or even 100 links on a page as a top end maximum. Anything over 50 outbound links on an average resources page is certainly quite high. However if your link will appear on the page of a good quality site or �authority website� an exchange can still be worthwhile.

Many of you asked us if we could add a new feature or two. So we sifted through the requests and have implemented several of them. You can now use all of them in Y!Q deployments on your own web site.
Briefly, they are:
Default search. You can supply a 'p' parameter that supplies a specific query for the initial Y!Q click in addition to the context.
Site context. It's now possible to supply additional context (a few words, a description, a sentence) behind the scenes. This context isn't readily visible to the user but may help refine results even more.
Module order customization. You have control over the order in which modules appear in the Y!Q overlay. If you'd rather have the search box at the bottom, simply provide a 'source order' parameter.
Static content insertion. Y!Q has a mechanism for providing content (text or HTML) that you'd like inserted into the overlay. This could be a message to your users, a branding logo, etc. In addition, you can use CSS to style it in any way you like.

Is RSS for real, or is it today's Social Networking?
It is hard to travel Silicon Valley these days without hearing the term RSS. People who don't even know what the term means want to invest in it, create companies around it, or add it to their products. (VentureBlog's David Hornik correctly predicted the rise of RSS over a year ago). AskJeeves just purchased Bloglines this week, spurring more interest in the space.
The core concept isn't new. Push technology was the hot trend of the mid 90's, spawning PointCast, Marimba and a host of others. What's changed is the wide adoption of RSS as a standard, enabling an explosion of new products and services.
Really Short History
At its core, RSS is just Really Simple Syndication - literally. That's what those three letters stand for. It is a way of organizing content so that it can be understood by a machine; kind of HTML for computers (in fact, RSS is a form of XML).

This form takes your web page and turns it into RSS 0.92.
RSSgenr8 is a hosted HTML to RSS Scraper Tool which dynamically generates a RSS feed from a HTML web page.
Changes to the web page are then automatically reflected in the RSS feed.
RSSgenr8 is based on RSSify from VoidStar.com but is much modified.
Acknowledgements also to Aaron Swartz who came up with the idea and the first implementation.

In Blogger you'd do this by going to your template in blogger and changing
<$BlogItemBody$> to <$BlogItemBody$>
And then publish something to re-create the page with the new template
Then put the URL of your new and modified page into the form below.
Check that what you get back looks like RSS.
Now you can make a link to this file like 'http://www.xmlhub.com/rssgenr8.php?pageurl=your_web_page_url'
Finally add a link to it on your web page, using something like the XML image below.

I am still 'lost' with my affiliate site creation. Even though I joined the Affiliate Classroom membership site, I don't feel like its going to work for me. Its not that the Affiliate Classroom isn't good but I feel like I don't need them to 'mentor' me.
